Kingsport draws off in Deputy Minister

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Kingsport polished off a solid field of Ontario-sired 3-year-olds on Wednesday night at Woodbine in the $125,000 Deputy Minister Stakes.
With Patrick Husbands aboard, Kingsport stalked the leaders on the outside before making a four-wide move on the turn. He took control early in the stretch en route to a 2 3/4-length tally in 1:21.82 for the seven furlongs.
Goodoldhockeygame wound up second by three-quarters of a length over Super Colerosa. After missing the break, R U Watchingbud rallied for fourth, and the favored Seffeara was a flat fifth in the six-horse field.
Trainer Sid Attard skipped the Queen’s Plate with Kingsport and won an Ontario-sired with him on the turf on July 4.
“This horse was so heavy,” Attard said. “It took forever for him to come around, but now he has come around nicely. I loved him today, because he came into this race very well.”
Kingsport ($17.70) earned $75,000 for Goldmart Farm and Royal Laser Racing Inc.
