ETOBICOKE, Ontario – A determined Kingsport outran the slow-starting Thor’s Rocket in the final strides to take Monday’s $100,800 Bunty Lawless Stakes at Woodbine.

Kingsport ($10) saved ground in fourth along the backstretch under Patrick Husbands, as Eskiminzin set honest fractions in the one-mile turf route.

Kingsport reached contention early in the stretch, before being passed by a wide-closing Thor’s Rocket, but Kingsport dug in late to score by a neck in a time of 1:37.84 over the yielding ground.

Be Vewy Vewy Quiet finished another 10 1/4 lengths back in third, while the favored filly Red Cabernet wound up fifth in the 10-horse field of Ontario-sired runners.

“I was fortunate to get the best part of the track, “Husbands said. “My horse handled it good. The footing was unbelievable. He had a perfect trip. The other horse put him away, and he fought back on. At the end of the day, the horse makes the jockey.”

A son of Milwaukee Brew trained by Sid Attard, Kingsport earned $60,000 for Goldmart Farms and Royal Laser Racing Inc.
