Michael Burns Caitlinhergrtness is the only filly entered in the year's King's Plate.

Caitlinhergrtness
Filly by Omaha Beach – Belatrix, by Giant’s Causeway
Bred in Ontario by Jesse Korona ($65,000 Keeneland November weanling purchase by Stoneriggs Farm; $160,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Elena Racing and Gelfenstein Farm; $375,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring 2-year-old purchase by Maverick Racing and Siena Farms)

Woodbine Oaks runner-up Caitlinhergrtness, the only filly in the rescheduled King’s Plate, has quite the namesake – WNBA star Caitlin Clark. The filly is seeking her own turn in the spotlight.

The impeccably bred Omaha Beach, by stalwart War Front and a half-brother to champion Take Charge Brandi, from the immediate line of Grade 1 winner and blue hen Take Charge Lady, has been quite versatile in both his racing and breeding careers. Omaha Beach was narrowly beaten in three turf maidens before breaking through on dirt. He won the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby and Grade 2 Rebel Stakes around two turns, then later cut back for a pair of Grade 1 wins around one turn, in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship and Malibu Stakes.

Omaha Beach was among 2023’s leading freshman sires, and his progeny have performed well on both dirt and turf. His top runners include Grade 3 Santa Ynez winner Kopion; Grade 1-placed E J Won the Cup, who took the Texas Derby; and Kentucky Oaks third-place finisher Regulatory Risk.

Belatrix, who was placed while racing in Brazil, is the dam of three winners from as many starters; Caitlinhergrtness is her first stakes horse.

Several successful pedigree crosses are at work here. Belatrix is a half-sister to stakes winner Dogtag – by War Front, the sire of Omaha Beach. Their dam, stakes-placed Diamond Necklace, is a half-sister to European champion Shamardal – by Giant’s Causeway, sire of Belatrix.

This also is the extended family of multiple Grade/Group 1 winner Street Cry.
