King: Saratoga pick three play for Sunday, Aug. 30
Contention runs deep Sunday at Saratoga in the late pick three, a three-race turf sequence, and the opinion here is to use three to five horses in each leg while emphasizing certain runners.
Race 9
FLASHLIGHT (2) and HONOR THE KITTEN (7) are the most likely winners of the ninth race, a $50,000 claimer on the turf, and are ‘A’ plays. But as is usually the case in grass races and specifically those for claimers, they are not lengths the best, so they will need trips to win.
Two backup ‘B’ plays also go on my ticket: the entry of UPGRADE (1) and COZY KITTEN (1A) and DANNHEUSER (11). The latter is a live longshot at 20-1 odds, but enthusiasm for him is tempered a bit by a wide draw.

Race 10
Three ‘As’ in the next leg: ROBILLARD (6), HOPE CROSS (10), and FEATHERED (11). Of these, Feathered seems best, but she will be overbet and has a wide draw.
Secondary ‘B’ runners are CHOCOLATIER (1) and RUN OF THE RIVER (5).
Race 11
TACHIELLO (4), KILLARNEY ROSE (7), and QUARLA (12) look a bit stronger than a few others in the lineup and are ‘A’ runners, with Tachiello the most liked of the trio.
A couple prices also get tossed in as ‘B’ runners: PUPAREE (2) and BI LIGHT OF DAY (6) – they all have blow-up potential to the pick three.
