King Peanut finds first stakes victory in Rainbow
King Peanut became a stakes winner Saturday when he darted to a 3 1/4-length win over Bohemian Bo in the $150,000 Rainbow at Oaklawn Park.
It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Debater.
The Rainbow was one of two stakes on the card for 3-year-olds bred in Arkansas. The $150,000 Rainbow Miss for fillies went to She’s Storming ($17). Both races were at six furlongs.
King Peanut ($5.80) was always prominent, pushing favorite Midnight Taxes through an opening quarter in 22.46 seconds and a half-mile in 45.91. He went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:10.93.
Jockey Francisco Arrieta was aboard for trainer Dan Peitz.
King Peanut picked up a first-place check of $91,650 to improve his career record to 2 for 3 for earnings of $156,050. He is a son of Mo for the Money who races for Richard Christian.
Peitz said King Peanut could move to two turns for the $200,000 Arkansas Breeders’ Championship, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Arkansas. It will be run May 6 at Oaklawn.
She’s Storming raced with the pace en route to covering six furlongs in 1:11.87. She won by 1 3/4 lengths over Bennykayandsuzytoo, while it was a neck back in third to Ms Carroll County. Kylee Jordan was aboard the winner, a daughter of Hightail, for Mike Tedder and trainer Michael Hewitt.
There is no racing Sunday in observance of Easter. Racing resumes Friday.
