King: Keeneland horses to watch for week of Sept. 29
HEAVENLY LOVE
Trainer: Mark Casse
Last race: KD, Sept. 7, 7th
Finish: 1st by 5
Beyer: 78
Either due to improvement as a second-time starter or with a shift to turf, she rolled to a dominant maiden win at Kentucky Downs, coasting over the final furlong with her ears pricked; considered a possible starter for the opening-day Alcibiades at Keeneland, which would mark a return to dirt, a surface on which she was third at Gulfstream first out over the summer.
DONA BRUJA
Trainer: Ignacio Correas
Last race: AP, Aug. 12, 10th
Finish: 2nd by 1/2
Beyer: 101
She has been idling at her home base of Keeneland for almost two months after dead-heating for the runner-up spot in the Beverly D., a race in which she lacked her customary late kick after being a bit keen behind slow fractions; is expected to cut back to a mile for the First Lady and should be even more effective at that distance.
TIGER MOTH
Trainer: Brad Cox
Last race: CD, Sept. 16, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 2
Beyer: 89
She turned in her best performance at Churchill Downs to date in running third in the Locust Grove after going unplaced in three prior starts but still seemed to lack her usual closing punch over the surface; may prove capable of an improved effort at Keeneland in the Spinster, which is shaping up very light for a Grade 1 race.
