King: How I'd play Keeneland on Sunday, April 19
As of this writing, the scheduled turf races at Keeneland remain on the grass despite steady rain this morning in Lexington. So bear in mind, my “How I’d play today” thoughts, being made late a.m. Sunday, are with the expectation those races will be run on a yielding grass course.
For that matter, the main track could end up something other than fast, too – though this track does drain exceptionally well, and the rain hasn’t been especially heavy in Kentucky this morning.
That noted – time to get to the betting strategy.
Let’s get things started with a pick three to kick off the card, playing a 50-cent ticket of 1,2,5 with 5,7,8 with 4 – with the single in the final leg being Political Justice, who looks like a clear standout in the third, particularly with a scratch of one of his main rivals this morning.
Then let’s try another pick three in 50-cent combinations that begins in race two, going 5,7,8 with 4, with 3,4,7.
Later on the card, view Allidoisdreamofyou (9) as one of the most probable winners on the card in race six, and a race late in race seven, I expect Spyin Feelin (1) to rebound from a poor last-race effort at Gulfstream and win.
In addition to playing them to win, they look like good horses to focus in multi-race exotics.
Last up in race 9, I like Ride n’ Reel (6). He is the most likely winner based on form but might go off as an overlay (though not as high as his 9-2 morning line) because his trainer, Steve Asmussen, has not had any one of his 11 starters this meet hit the board at Keeneland.
The man has won more than 7,000 races – leading me to believe this slump is fluky.
