King Fury earns 79 Beyer in Street Sense victory

King Fury earned a program-high 79 Beyer Speed Figure for his half-length victory Sunday in the Street Sense, which was co-featured with its filly counterpart, the Rags to Riches, on an 11-race Stars of Tomorrow opening-day card. Coach, winner of the Rags to Riches, got a 71 Beyer when staying unbeaten in three starts.
Ken McPeek said after the Street Sense that he intended to pre-enter King Fury for the Nov. 6 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile but that he was more likely to wait for the Nov. 28 Kentucky Jockey Club. McPeek said King Fury, a $950,000 yearling purchase at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga, is the most expensive horse he has ever bought at auction. Fern Circle Stables and Three Chimneys Farm are partners in the Curlin colt.
◗ With no stakes on the schedule for the coming weekend, and with the following weekend (Nov. 6-7) being the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland, the next stakes at Churchill will be the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere on Nov. 14. The 24-day meet runs through Nov. 29.
◗ Churchill has expanded the schedule for the 2021 Kentucky Derby Future Wager from four pools to five, with Pool 1 set for Nov. 26-29. Seven pools were actually held ahead of the 2020 Derby because of the race postponement from May to September.
