Killin Me Smalls makes it look easy in Sun Sprint

Randy Goulding|Aug 02, 2016

Killin Me Smalls was an impressive 5 1/2-length winner of the $51,739 Sun Sprint Championship Handicap at Northlands Monday. He paid $3.80 for his romp over Red Red Rose, who set the pace in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up.

Ridden by Keishan Balgobin, Killin Me Smalls was in a stalking position early and took control of the race on the stretch turn. He held a 2 1/2-length lead over Red Red Rose at the top of the stretch and was never threatened while being ridden out. Our Dandy’s Boy forced the issue early before tiring to finish third.

It was the first win for Killin Me Smalls since he won the Grade 2 Premiers going 1 3/8 miles at Hastings last Oct. 12.

He is trained by Ernie Keller and is owned by Deltin Stable and Ed Welsh.

The final time over a track rated good was 1:16.66.

Earlier, Balgobin guided Norm’s Big Buck to a 7 1/2-length romp in the colts and geldings division of the $49,000 Two Year Old Sales Stakes. Trained by Tim Rycroft and owned by Riversedge Racing Stables Inc., Norm’s Big Bucks paid $2.90 for his easy win over Special Kiss in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint. The final time was 1:18.57.

Saveitforarainyday edged Parcan Cowgirl by a neck in the fillies division. She paid $5.20.

She was ridden by Shamaree Muir and is trained by Tom Rycroft.

The final time was 1:20.75.
