Killin Me Smalls comes through as favorite in Journal
Killin Me Smalls came from a stalking position to win the $50,000 Journal at Northlands Park by a convincing three and one-half lengths over longshot For Cash. He paid $5.20 as the slight favorite over Omar in the six-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up, which drew nine horses.
With Ruben Lar aboard, Killin Me Smalls steadied slightly heading into the first turn before settling into fourth. He started picking up horses going down the backstretch and made a strong three-wide move around the stretch turn to take command. He opened up a clear lead in midstretch and was never threatened by For Cash, who rallied late. Red Red Rose set the early pace and held on to finish third.
The final time was a snappy 1:09.02.
Killin Me Smalls is trained by Ernie Keller and is owned by Deltin Stable and Ed Wash.
