Kikisoblu raced to an easy victory Sunday in the $50,000 Washington State Legislators Handicap at Emerald Downs, further cementing her status as the top older filly or mare in the Pacific Northwest. A 4-year-old by Kodiak Kowboy, Kikisoblu won her fourth consecutive start overall, and second in a row at Emerald Downs. She captured the six-furlong Hastings Handicap by 4 1/4 lengths May 10 and was even more impressive for trainer Tom Wenzel as the 4-5 favorite in the Washington State Legislators. With regular rider Rocco Bowen guiding her around, Kikisoblu covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.80 to prevail by 6 1/4 lengths over Lady of the Nile, who was 2 3/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher I Think So. They were followed by Madam Pele, Camille, Bee Dees Bid, and Charismata in a field of seven. Kikisoblu earned $27,500 for owners George Todaro of Seattle and Steve Shimizu of Bellevue, Wash., increasing her career ledger to $72,024. She was a $10,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland in 2012. Todaro indicated that Kikisoblu would make her next start in the one-mile Boeing Handicap on July 5, the third event in Emerald’s four-race stakes series for fillies and mares. The finale is the $65,000 Emerald Distaff at 1 1/8 miles Aug. 16.
