Khozmore tries to go 3 for 3 in allowance sprint

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – What she lacks in experience Khozmore will try to make up for with sheer ability when she puts her unblemished record on the line against five more-seasoned rivals in the second of two intriguing allowance races that highlight Thursday’s eight-race program at Gulfstream Park.
Khozmore has been untested in two starts, capturing her debut here in a maiden $50,000 claiming dash by 7 1/4 lengths on Aug. 8 before returning 20 days later to defeat statebred allowance company by 3 1/2 lengths in equally impressive fashion. She stretched out from six to 6 1/2 furlongs in her second outing, the same distance as Thursday’s $52,000 race, and earned an 80 Beyer Speed Figure, a point higher than she received in her first start.
A 3-year-old daughter of Khozan out of the multiple stakes-placed mare Foret, Khozmore was purchased for $150,000 out of the 2020 OBS April sale. She is trained by Kathleen O’Connell for Windylea Farm.

Khozmore is well drawn for her toughest test to date, breaking from the outside with Luca Panici aboard once again.
Khozmore’s stiffest competition could come from Restofthestory, who returns to the allowance ranks for the first time since leading most of the way to defeat statebred competition by 2 1/2 lengths going a mile on June 18. Restofthestory has made three starts since, finishing third in an overnight handicap and second in the Azalea Stakes before faltering badly when trying turf last month in the Miss Gracie Stakes.
The 7-year-old Liza Star, the oldest and winningest member of the field with 13 victories, figures to set the pace while seeking to return to the form that produced a pair of wire-to-wire victories earlier in the year. Corey, Nacho Mama, and Bargainaire complete the lineup.
A field of five 2-year-olds goes six furlongs for a $52,000 purse in Thursday’s second race.
Muted, a filly who drew off to a convincing 7 1/4-length victory here Sept. 3 in her only start, figures to be the odds-on favorite for trainer Tom Proctor. Muted, who commanded a $450,000 sales price at the 2020 Keeneland September sale, is by Into Mischief and the first foal to make the races out of the multiple Grade 3-placed mare Praia, who had all of her success racing on grass.
Yes I’m a Beast, a 13 3/4-length winner under a $25,000 claiming tag 19 days earlier and the only member of the field with multiple victories, leads the competition. Deal Go Down returns locally and to the main track off a couple of disappointing showings on turf in Kentucky.
◗ The 20-cent Rainbow 6 was hit Saturday, returning $461,035.47 to the lone winning ticketholder. The wager had gone unsolved the previous 16 racing days, since a mandatory payout produced multiple payoffs of $313,299 on Sept. 10.
Eight of the 10 starters would have capped the jackpot with a win in the finale, with 5-2 Eye of the Temple completing the winning sequence. Sun Viking and Racing Moon, the only two horses in the field that would have produced a carryover, finished second and third.
◗ King of Dreams rallied from far back at odds of 11-1 to capture Saturday’s $60,000 Oakland Park overnight handicap while making his debut over the Tapeta surface. King of Dreams, a 3-year-old son of Air Force Blue, is owned by former Major League Baseball star Victor Martinez and was ridden to victory by Emisael Jaramillo for trainer Juan Avila. Wind of Change, the 4-5 favorite, finished second after leading until deep stretch.
