Kg Johnny B Good heads lineup for Oklahoma Futurity
Kg Johnny B Good could go favored in Quarter Horse racing’s oldest futurity Saturday night as the fastest qualifier for the 75th running of the Oklahoma Futurity at Remington Park.
The Grade 3, $420,000 Oklahoma Futurity will be contested at 300 yards. It is the meet’s first major stakes for 2-year-olds and it will share a card with the Grade 3, $280,000 Oklahoma Derby. Remington will put on 12 races Saturday, with the card worth more than $1 million.
Kg Johnny B Good emerged as the fastest qualifier for the Oklahoma Futurity after 15 trials on March 12. He won his 300 yard debut in 15.491 seconds, by a nose over 4-5 favorite Coronas First Diva. Cody Smith rode Kg Johnny B Good and will be aboard again Saturday for Reba and Ken George and trainer Loyd Moreland.
Coronas First Diva also returns in the finale. She was up by a length in the stretch of her trial, before being overtaken by Kg Johnny B Good. She is the second-fastest qualifier for the Oklahoma Futurity.
Feature Moonflash will also get good support off his nose trial win, in 15.55 seconds. He was third third-fastest qualifier. Jimmy Brooks has the mount for trainer Eddie Willis.
In the Oklahoma Derby, She Looks Racy will be going for her fourth straight win in a streak that started Jan. 3 at Hialeah.
Champion works at Remington
Jess Good Candy, 2-year-old champion Quarter Horse and the winner of last year’s All American Futurity, worked Wednesday at Remington Park. He is being pointed for the track’s $70,000 Mr Master Bug on April 24, trainer Clint Crawford told officials with Remington.
Crawford said Jess Good Candy has a summer objective of the derby series for 3-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.
