Key contenders for Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

Cavorting (Last 3 Beyers: 100-93-100)
• A red-hot prospect ever since she won her debut in July 2014 at Belmont Park, this filly was assigned the far-outside post, which suits trainer Kiaran McLaughlin just fine: “There’s a long run down the backside to get position for the turn, and there’s plenty of leeway for the jock.”
Judy the Beauty (Last 3 Beyers: 88-90-92)
• Classy mare long has shown a rare combination of speed and grit, and it’ll be up to Frankie Dettori to work out the right kind of trip for her to repeat. “Frankie and I have had a lot of luck together,” said trainer Wesley Ward. “He’s got the magic touch.”
Stonetastic (Last 3 Beyers: 109-95-51)
• She missed what would’ve been her final prep Oct. 3 at Parx because of the quarantine situation, but trainer Kelly Breen said that’s a minor consideration in the grand scheme. “She’s really trained lights-out,” he said.
La Verdad (Last 3 Beyers: 89-102-102)
• Proud Truth, the 1985 Classic winner, is believed to be the only Breeders’ Cup winner to run back on just six days’ rest, but it’s fairly obvious that her handy victory last Saturday in the Iroquois at Belmont was little more than a paid breeze.
Dame Dorothy (Last 3 Beyers: 97-73-95)
• The winner of the Grade 1 Humana Distaff on the Kentucky Derby undercard, this filly has been particularly effective at this seven-furlong distance and will have a Hall of Fame jockey in John Velazquez trying to push all the right buttons to get her into contention.
Taris (Last 3 Beyers: 91-91-86)
• Enigmatic sort had the racing world buzzing last fall when getting that huge Beyer Speed Figure in the Raven Run; still, she’ll have to do better than her latest, when she was upset at odds-on in the Oct. 4 L.A. Woman at Santa Anita.
