Barbara D. Livingston Forty Under put in a four-furlong turf work on Oct. 26 at Churchill Downs.

Last 3 Beyers: 83-81-39

◗ Lost a lot of ground on the far turn and had to rally into a slow pace and still won a decent-seeming edition of the Pilgrim.

◗ Saratoga maiden race shows he can deploy more positional speed if need be.

◗ Trainer sent him fairly early to Churchill to settle in and work over the turf, and he’s been one of the more appealing horses to watch in the morning.

No Beyers – overseas races

◗ Hasn’t raced in the highest-class races overseas, but won his group-stakes debut Oct. 1 in the Group 3 Prix de Conde from which third-place Wonderment emerged to win a Group 1 last weekend in France.

◗ Shows determination and courage to race willingly inside and between horses, a trait that can serve him well in a 14-horse field on a tight oval.

◗ Has run a turn in all four of his starts, and trainer who won this race in 2013 thinks he’ll suit U.S. style.

No Beyers – overseas races

◗ In a vacuum he’s the “best” horse in the race coming out of a pair of important Group 1's in England in Ireland where he at least held his own.

◗ Trainer has said he prefers a firmer, faster turf course and with so much rain forecast to fall here, he might not get the right going.

◗ Between his low price, the course condition, and a bad draw in post 14, he seems better opposed than backed, though multi-race players might feel a lot better including him on tickets.

Current, by Curlin
Last 3 Beyers: 83-77-70

◗ Seemed too far behind at the three-sixteenths pole at Keeneland last out to possibly win but finished with a flourish to get up.

◗ His finishing time from that race won’t look impressive, but no horses were finishing fast over a rough Keeneland course at that point in the meet – don’t hold it against him.

◗ Pletcher has said he’s a work in progress, a horse with a lot of energy who needs to learn to harness it, but he appears to be making race-by-race progress in that area and is worth using at a fair price.
