Kevin Patterson breaks record for consecutive wins with 15th straight score
Trainer Kevin Patterson broke the late Frank Passero’s record of 14 straight wins Saturday night when he sent out Flashy Dragon Girl to win the seventh race at Charles Town. Flashy Dragon Girl won the first-level allowance by 4 1/2 lengths.
Patterson has now won with 15 consecutive starters dating back to May 31. All of the wins during his streak have come at either Charles Town or Mountaineer Park.
Passero won 14 straight races at Gulfstream Park in 1996.
Patterson has won with 11 different horses during his streak. Ten of his wins have come for owner Robert Cole Jr. – the owner of Flashy Dragon Girl - and five have been for the partnership of Diamond Oak Stable and TEC Racing.
Cole was the leading owner in North America in 2008 when he won 234 races. This is not the first time he has been involved in a consecutive-win record like Patterson’s. Cole was the owner of Rapid Redux, who won 22 consecutive races from 2010 to 2012.
For the year, Patterson is 32 for 77, a win average of 41 percent. He has won 428 career races from 1,326 starts, a strike rate of 32 percent.
Patterson is sixth in the Charles Town standings with 24 wins from 55 starts. He is 6 for 13 at Mountaineer.
He does not have another horse entered through Wednesday.
