Kentucky stallions: Ghostzapper emerges as broodmare sire

Adena Springs’s homebred champion Ghostzapper hinted that he was developing as a broodmare sire at a relatively early point in his career when Drefong, out of his daughter Eltimaas, was named the champion male sprinter of 2016.

Two years later, Ghostzapper followed up in a big way, joining an elite club as the broodmare sire of a Triple Crown winner, unbeaten Justify. Justify’s dam, Grade 3-placed Stage Magic, is the front-runner to be named Kentucky’s Broodmare of the Year, as she also was represented by Grade 3 winner The Lieutenant in 2018.

But Ghostzapper’s breakout season as a broodmare sire didn’t end there. His daughter American Story was represented by Grade 1 winner American Gal and Grade 2-placed Americanize in 2018. Ghostzapper’s season also included Grade 3 winner Cosmic Burst, Japanese Group 3 winner Gibeon, stakes winner Silent Poet, and Grade 3-placed Guest Suite.
