Kentucky Oaks: Echo Zulu has final breeze before race

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Unbeaten Eclipse Award champion Echo Zulu turned in her final breeze toward the Kentucky Oaks on Sunday morning at Churchill Downs, going an easy solo half-mile in 50.84 seconds on the watch of Daily Racing Form clocker Mike Welsch.
The work took place at 9 a.m., just after the track’s second harrow break. The filly had her ears pricked while kept off the rail.
Echo Zulu has raced once this year, winning the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 26 to remain undefeated in five starts. She capped her championship 2-year-old campaign with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies in November.
She has now breezed four times at Churchill Downs since her prep start. Sunday’s breeze was designed as a maintenance move after a stiffer six furlongs last week, a typical pattern for the Asmussen barn.
