Kentucky Horse Council announces Horsemen’s Regional Caucuses

DRF Breeding Staff|Jun 28, 2013

The Kentucky Horse Council has announced the first two in a series of Horsemen’s Regional Caucuses, designed to increase networking, communication and education across the state.

Each caucus will include a meal and an evening of discussions about horse-related issues and activities in the area. The results of the 2012 Kentucky Equine Survey will be presented with specific county figures, and KHC board members will discuss current projects and request input on ideas specific to the region.

Two caucuses are currently scheduled, with more planned to cover all regions of the state through the remainder of 2013 and into 2014.

The Hardin Regional Caucus will include horsemen from Hardin, Meade, Breckenridge, Larue, Grayson, and Hart Counties. The event is scheduled for August 21 at 6 p.m. Eastern at the Hardin County Extension Office in Elizabethtown, Ky.

The Boyle Regional Caucus will include horsemen from Boyle, Anderson, Washington, Marion, Mercer, Garrard, and Lincoln Counties, scheduled for August 22 at the Boyle Extension Office in Danville, Ky., beginning at 6 p.m.

Attendance is free to the caucuses, but registration is required to estimate the number of meals and handouts. Horsemen from all breeds are invited to attend.

"The Kentucky Horse Council's mission is to support and educate all horsemen in Kentucky," said KHC board president Anna Zinkhon. "These caucuses allow us to talk directly to horsemen from all breeds and uses across the Commonwealth, to make sure that we understand their needs, and also to let them know about KHC's current programs.

“We also believe in the importance of involving local and state elected officials,” Zinkhon continued. “The equine industry needs to continue to emphasize the importance and size of this industry all across the Commonwealth. The KHC board is looking forward to these caucuses to provide us ideas for planning projects for 2014 and beyond."
