Kentucky Downs shifts to earlier post time, fewer races for Thursday due to dangerously hot forecast

Kentucky Downs has moved post time for its Thursday, Sept. 3, racing program from 12:55 p.m. to 11 a.m. Central and reduced the number of races on the card from 11 to seven because of potentially dangerous high temperatures.

The first seven contests on the card will be run as carded, but the final four, including the $750,000 Bowling Green Gold Cup, will be added to the program for Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Thursday’s forecast high temperature is 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, and the heat wave will not break anytime soon. The temperature on Saturday, the most important card of the seven-day Kentucky Downs meet, is forecast to reach 97 degrees.
