Wild at Heart’s workout at Santa Anita on Friday went a little better than expected.Officially, the 3-year-old Wild at Heart worked five furlongs in 58 seconds. Trainer Richard Mandella timed her in 1:11 for six furlongs.

International Star is a half-sibling to two stakes winners, both of whom had their greatest success at sprint distances. This son of 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus has already appeared to outrun those suggested distance limitations while cutting a swath through the Louisiana prep circuit, but he stretches out to nine furlongs for the first time in Saturday’s Louisiana Derby. With a number of familiar names in his pedigree, he should handle this task.
