Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for March 7, 2018

WHO’S HOT
Promises Fulfilled, the winner of the Fountain of Youth Stakes last Saturday, is the lone newcomer to the Derby Watch top 20. He is 20-1 on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form’s national handicapper. Watchmaker also has a new favorite for the May 5 Kentucky Derby, as McKinzie ascends to the top spot at 6-1 following the Fountain of Youth loss of the previous favorite, Good Magic. Strike Power, the Fountain of Youth runner-up, is down to 25-1 after being 40-1 a week ago. Watchmaker also lowered the prices on Audible from 10-1 to 8-1 and Justify from 20-1 to 15-1.

WHO’S NOT
To make room for Promises Fulfilled, Southwest Stakes runner-up Combatant was forced off the list. He did nothing wrong. He was just the 21st horse for a list that mirrors the Derby field, 20 horses. Good Magic, favored last week at 6-1, is now the fourth choice on Watchmaker’s line at 10-1. Watchmaker also raised the price on Instilled Regard, who is now 30-1 after being 25-1 a week ago.

ON THE BUBBLE
Combatant obviously would be the first one back in with a defection from the top 20, but there is the potential for plenty of movement in the next week, what with three races Saturday awarding Derby qualifying points – the San Felipe, Tampa Bay Derby, and Gotham. Among those seeking to move back onto the list are Firenze Fire, scheduled to go in the Gotham, and Tiz Mischief, who is in the Tampa Bay Derby.
