Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for March 28, 2018

WHO’S HOT

Noble Indy and Lone Sailor, the one-two finishers in the Louisiana Derby, and Runaway Ghost, the winner of the Sunland Derby, are the three additions this week to the Derby Watch top 20, a list that increasingly must reflect the reality of the points standings as Derby Day nears. Noble Indy had been on the list earlier this year and earned his way back on with his game victory last Saturday. He is 20-1 on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form’s national handicapper. Lone Sailor and Runaway Ghost are both 40-1 on Watchmaker’s line. Gold Town, 30-1 last week, ticked down to 25-1 in advance of his scheduled start in the United Arab Emirates Derby on Saturday.

WHO’S NOT

Gronkowski, Instilled Regard, and Snapper Sinclair all were dropped from the list, though Gronkowski could bounce right back on as he is scheduled to run Friday at Newcastle, and a good performance there would make him the representative from the inaugural European Road to the Derby series, which carves out a spot in the Derby field for a horse from Europe. My Boy Jack (now 30-1 from 25-1) and Bravazo (now 40-1 from 30-1) both had their odds raised by Watchmaker following the Louisiana Derby.

ON THE BUBBLE

Reride takes on Derby Watch members Gold Town and Mendelssohn in the UAE Derby. Reride won the Mine That Bird Derby, and saw his form flattered when that race’s runner-up, Runaway Ghost, won the Sunland Derby.
