Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for Feb. 14, 2018

WHO’S HOT
Kanthaka, who won the San Vicente Stakes, and Flameaway, the winner of the Sam F. Davis Stakes, are the two newcomers to this week’s Derby Watch top 20. Kanthaka is 25-1 on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form’s national handicapper. He has Flameaway at 30-1. Audible saw his price tick down to 10-1 from last week’s 12-1, while both Avery Island and Sporting Chance are now 25-1 after being 30-1 a week ago.

WHO’S NOT
Ax Man and Firenze Fire were taken off the list. Ax Man was removed for performance after failing as the odds-on favorite in the San Vicente. Firenze Fire was the longest shot at 50-1 on last week’s inaugural list, and the Derby Watch executive committee determined that both Kanthaka and Flameaway were more deserving of inclusion, so Firenze Fire ended up the odd horse out. Watchmaker raised the prices on several horses from last week. Principe Guilherme is 20-1 after being 15-1, Strike Power is 30-1 after being 25-1, Combatant was raised from 25-1 to 40-1, and both Enticed and Tiz Mischief are 40-1 after being 30-1. Watchmaker said many of those prices reflect the action in last weekend’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

ON THE BUBBLE
Vino Rosso, third in the Sam F. Davis, just missed the cut, as did Snapper Sinclair, who goes in the Risen Star on Saturday at Fair Grounds. Both the Risen Star and Southwest Stakes are this holiday weekend, so a number of runners – including Zing Zang, who runs in the Southwest on Monday at Oaklawn – will have a chance to muscle their way onto the list.
