Magnum Moon Malibu Moon–Dazzling Song, by Unbridled’s Song Bred in Kentucky by Ramona S. Bass LLC ($380,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Robert and Lawana Low) Magnum Moon is attempting to do something that hasn’t been done since 1882 – win the Kentucky Derby without having raced at age 2. But backing him up, the colt has a distance-oriented pedigree that has found recent success in the American classic series. Malibu Moon, a son of A.P. Indy who has followed in his sire’s hoofprints by producing route runners, is the sire of 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb. The A.P. Indy sireline is responsible over the past five years alone in the classics for Tapit, represented by three Belmont Stakes winners in the last four years, and Lucky Pulpit, the sire of dual classic winner and champion California Chrome. :: Kentucky Derby advance PPs are now available! In recent years, the Unbridled sireline has also taken center stage in the Triple Crown series. Magnum Moon is out of Dazzling Song, an unraced daughter of the late Unbridled’s Song, who has emerged as a leading broodmare sire, with major representatives in that category including champion Unique Bella and Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Tourist. As a broodmare sire on the Triple Crown trail, Unbridled’s Song is represented by 2016 Preakness Stakes runner-up Cherry Wine, 2014 Belmont third-place finisher Medal Count, and a number of prominent prep performers, including Blue Grass winners General Quarters and Carpe Diem. General Quarters is bred on an A.P. Indy sireline cross, as are Unique Bella and multiple Grade 1 winner Moonshine Memories. Dazzling Song’s dam, Win McCool, was a Grade 3 winner sprinting. That mare is a half-sister to Arkansas Derby winner Graeme Hall, Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Harmony Lodge, and stakes winner and producer Win’s Fair Lady. :: ROAD TO THE KENTUCKY DERBY: Prep races, point standings, replays, and analysis
