Enticed
Medaglia d’Oro-It’s Tricky, by Mineshaft

Bred in Kentucky by Godolphin

The late racemare It’s Tricky had an affinity for Aqueduct, winning all five of her starts there, including three stakes. Her son Enticed, her lone starter from three foals produced prior to her death last year, seems to have inherited the same. The Medaglia d’Oro colt won the Gotham Stakes in his most recent outing and now moves on to the Wood Memorial.

Should Enticed advance to the Kentucky Derby, he would head to another track he has shown a liking for, as he won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last fall at Churchill Downs.

It’s Tricky won five of her first six starts, including an eight-length airing in the Busher at Aqueduct followed by her first of three Grade 1 victories in the Acorn at Belmont. She added the Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga over Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty and eventual champion Royal Delta before finishing second to Royal Delta in the Alabama, second to Plum Pretty in the Cotillion, and again second to Royal Delta in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic.

The following year, It’s Tricky won the Top Flight and Distaff handicaps back at Aqueduct, both Grade 2 events, to start her season, followed by another Grade 1 score in the Ogden Phipps at Belmont. She proceeded to finish third to Love and Pride and Royal Delta in the Personal Ensign at Saratoga and then second to Royal Delta in the Beldame in her career finale.

It’s Tricky’s first foal, the 2014 filly Too Complicated, never raced and is slated to join her breeder’s broodmare band. The mare has an unnamed juvenile filly by Ghostzapper in training for the operation.

Mineshaft is the broodmare sire of 2016 Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia and another Kentucky Derby hopeful this year in My Boy Jack. It’s Tricky was out of the Grade 3-winning Tale of the Cat mare Catboat, a half-sister to two stakes-placed runners.

Medaglia d’Oro, second in the 2002 Belmont Stakes, is the sire of Hall of Fame racemare Rachel Alexandra, who won the 2009 Preakness Stakes in her championship campaign. He is also the sire of multiple Grade 1 winner Bolt d’Oro, who is expected to start in Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby.
