Kentucky commission to consider Dutrow license application

Richard Dutrow, the New York-based former trainer who was banned in 2011 for 10 years by New York regulators, has filed a license application with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and will have the application discussed Tuesday in front of the commission’s License Review Committee.
According to Marc Guilfoil, executive director of the KHRC, Dutrow’s attorney has “been petitioning for four or five months” to have a license application reviewed by the commission.
“The committee is set up to meet, so he’s on it along with five other individuals,” Guilfoil said.
The committee generally grants petitions to hear a license application, Guilfoil said.
Dutrow’s attorney, Karen Murphy, did not immediately respond to a phone message.
Dutrow, 60, was banned by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board in 2011, but he did not begin serving the 10-year ban until exhausting his legal appeals in early 2013. The board cited a long history of racing violations when issuing the ban.
Just prior to the New York board’s decision to ban Dutrow in 2011, the License Review Committee of the Kentucky commission declined to renew Dutrow’s training license.
