Kentuckian points to Los Alamitos Derby

ARCADIA, Calif. – Kentuckian, winner of the Grade 3 Lazaro Barrera Stakes at Santa Anita on May 10, will make his next start in the $350,000 Los Alamitos Derby at the Orange County track July 4.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said earlier this week he plans to skip the $100,000 Affirmed Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles June 7 at Santa Anita with Kentuckian in favor of the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Derby, which is run at 1 1/8 miles.
“We’ve been pretty patient, and we know if we wait, he’ll run some nice races,” Hollendorfer said.
Kentuckian, by Curlin, races for Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farms and has won 2 of 3 starts and earned $85,080. He won the Laz Barrera Stakes at seven furlongs by 6 1/4 lengths.
Super Majesty, a maiden race winner for Hollendorfer in her debut Sunday, will start in an allowance race in her second start and not a stakes. Super Majesty won her debut by 6 1/4 lengths in a six-furlong maiden race. The filly, by Super Saver, is owned by LNJ Foxwoods.
“I think we’ll give her some time between races and make a decision,” Hollendorfer said. “I think we’ll look for an allowance. We knew she was a nice horse but don’t expect to see her run like that.”
