STRONACH 5

Kenny Peck's Stronach 5 play for Friday, July 3, 2020

Kenny Peck|Jul 01, 2020

LEG A (LRL 7th): JUDI BLUE EYES (4) gets back on the turf today, and this may well be her preferred surface. GENNIE HIGHWAY (5) is the one to beat, as turf sprinting is clearly her game and she has some of the best grass sprint Beyers in this field. TOMA (9) is worth using in some capacity – perhaps as a "B" on split tickets, but in equal strength for the purposes of this ticket – as she has some upside in her grass debut, given trainer Mark Reid's success with turf sprinters.

LEG B (GP 9th): ALIZEE (2) comes back from the layoff and lands in a seemingly good spot, certainly with a favorable inside draw that should allow her to stay close from the start. SKY CHASER (4) goes back to a mile after making a premature run and weakening in her latest; she's another with the speed to get immediate position. LIL MISS HOTSHOT (5) merits respect on the strength of that last effort and Beyer. SAMMIE SUNSHINE (6) will take them as far as she can on the front end.

LEG C (LRL 8th): NAME CHANGER (1A) has been away but he has always run well fresh, and if he's on his game he looms tough as he has some of the best Beyers in the field. He has some tactical early zip, a big part of his success, and with speed to his inside and out he figures to be ideally spotted going into the turn.

LEG D (GP 10th): SPIN FACTOR (1) has been working steadily toward his debut; dangerous if able to work out a trip from the hedge. MONY (4) has been away more than a year but makes his first start for trainer Wesley Ward, who wins at a solid rate (27 percent) with new faces. JOE BENJAMIN (6) has turf figures that make him a contender. UNBRIDLED TIZZY (8) sports a nice string of breezes for Mark Casse, perhaps the best tab of any of the firsters in this field. MR MATUSCHEK (9) has already shown that he has the versatility to either lead or rate, a big edge as he tries to work out a trip from his outside post. SALOW (10) debuts for Ward, and he predictably sports some workouts that suggest he could have some speed.

LEG E (LRL 9th): J BERESFORD TIPTON (1) certainly benefited from the race flow in that last one, but he also merits respect off that figure. SPEED GAME (4) looks like the main speed in this field, which is a little light on pace, and if he can shake loose in the opening stages and back down the tempo he has a big chance to steal this.

THE PLAY: 4, 5, 9 / 2, 4, 5, 6 / 1A / 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 / 1, 4 = $144 ticket
