Kelly Leak targets graded stakes

A promising third-place comeback March 19 by 2009 Sunland Derby winner Kelly Leak sets up the 4-year-old for a shot at graded stakes in the months ahead, according to trainer Mike Machowsky.

"We'll see if we can make him one of the better milers," Machowsky said.

Kelly Leak, who was making his first start in five months, finished third in a turf sprint and will stretch to two turns in the Grade 2 San Francisco Mile on April 24 at Golden Gate or the Grade 3 Inglewood Handicap on April 25 at Hollywood Park. Kelly Leak has won three races and $738,250 from 12 starts. He earned $500,000 in the Sunland Derby.
