Keeneland September: Horses to watch at Thursday's Book 5 closer

Nicole Russo|Sep 21, 2022

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The following are horses to watch in Thursday's session of the Keeneland September yearling sale, the Book 5 closing day as the auction moves into its final stretch. Horses were selected largely based on their pedigrees, and these selections factor in catalog updates and sale outs through Wednesday.

Hip 3264, colt by Constitution - Summer Luck, by Lookin At Lucky. Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent.

This is a colt by a young sire on the upswing, out of a young Grade 2-placed mare.

Hip 3404, colt by Bernardini - Composing, by Touch Gold. Consigned by Mulholland Springs, agent.

This is the penultimate crop for Bernardini. Composing, out of Grade 1 winner Party Cited, is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Composure and graded winner Ready Set. Composure is the dam of Grade 2 winner Penwith, by Bernardini, and several other stakes horses in the family are from the A.P. Indy sireline.

Hip 3420, colt by Medaglia d'Oro - Desert Rose Drive, by A.P. Indy. Consigned by KatieRich Farms.

Desert Rose Drive, dam of three winners from four starters, is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner and Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, dam of champion Will Take Charge and Grade 1 winner Take Charge Indy, and second dam of champion Take Charge Brandi and Grade 1 winner Omaha Beach.

Hip 3459, filly by Audible - Fleet Bertie, by Afleet Alex. Consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

This is a commercially popular first crop for Audible, a Grade 1-winning son of Into Mischief. Fleet Bertie is stakes-placed.

Hip 3504, colt by Girvin - Into Summer, by Into Mischief. Consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent.

Grade 1 winner Girvin made such a solid start with his 2-year-olds this year that he was "called up" from Florida to the Kentucky stallion market. Stakes-placed Into Summer is from the immediate family of multiple graded stakes winner Summer Wind Dancer.

Hip 3553, colt by Justify - Mayla, by Sharp Humor. Consigned by Grovendale Sales, agent for WinStar Farm.

This colt by a successful young Triple Crown winner is the first foal for Grade 3-placed stakes winner Mayla, who is from the family of Grade 1 winner and successful sire Jimmy Creed, as well as Grade 1 winners Hookenonthefeelin, Pussycat Doll, and Midnight Lucky.
