Keeneland sale led by $220K Yes It’s True colt

A colt by Yes It’s True out of the winning Saint Ballado mare Wadena was the session-topper as of late afternoon Wednesday at the Keeneland September yearling sale in Lexington, Ky.

The colt was bought by James Kasparoff, agent, for $220,000 out of the consignment of Bill Reightler, acting as agent, according to Keeneland sales records. Kasparoff is a California-based trainer.

The Wednesday session was the ninth day of selling at Keeneland. So far, the sale’s key indices have been up compared with last year, with the exception of gross, largely because of a reduction in the size of the catalog this year to compensate for dramatic declines in the foal crop over the past five years.

With 176 horses sold by late afternoon – from a total of 385 cataloged for the day – the average price was $28,347, and the median was $20,000. Last year during the comparable session, the average was $22,127 and median was $15,000.

A First Defence colt out of the stakes-placed mare Chanceisalady had brought $200,000 by late afternoon. The colt, who is part of the second crop of First Defence, was bought by Juddmonte Farms.

The highest-priced filly as of late afternoon was a Pioneerof the Nile filly out of the Storm Cat mare Charming Toutsie, bought for $150,000 by Sagamore Farm.
