Keeneland numbers still up

On a day when $20,000 to $60,000 prices were common, a $330,000 purchase at the Keeneland September yearling sale's 10th session Thursday reminded sellers that big money was still available in the open market.

Southern Equine Stables paid $330,000 late Thursday for the Claiborne Farm agency's Pulpit filly out of Audrey Paulina. The filly is a full sister to 2006 Canadian stakes-placed Pulpit's Treasure. At 5 p.m., she was Thursday's session leader in terms of price.

Through Wednesday's ninth session, the auction had sold 2,316 yearlings for $377,183,700, up 4 percent from last year's total for 2,353 lots. The cumulative average price of $162,860 was up 6 percent, and the $80,000 median represented a 7 percent gain.

The sale was to continue through Sept. 25 with continuous sessions beginning daily at 10 a.m. at the Keeneland sale pavilion.
