A pair of horses each sold for $130,000 to lead the penultimate session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale on Tuesday. Keeneland reported 265 horses changed hands on Tuesday for gross receipts of $3,183,200  - adding to the auction's total gross which had already, with Monday's eighth session, surpassed the total gross from 2021's 10-session sale. The gross for this sale, with nine of 10 sessions complete, currently sits at $208,879,800. Last year's 10-session sale finished with a gross of $203,585,500. Tuesday's average price was $12,012, while the median checked in at $7,000. The buyback rate for the day was 14 percent. True session-to-session, year-to-year comparisons from the final days of Keeneland November are difficult to make. Last year's three-session Book 5 to end the sale included 938 breeding stock offerings - mainly broodmares, broodmare prospects, and weanlings - as well as an initial catalog of 254 racehorses on the final day of the sale, with those offerings helping to buoy the figures for that session. This year's three-session Book 5 has more traditional breeding stock offerings, with 1,070 in the catalog. Keeneland will then break out the horses of racing age into a separate sale with separate figures, on Thursday, Nov. 17. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures A weanling colt from the first crop of Vekoma sold for $130,000 to bloodstock agent Christina Jelm to set the bar for the Tuesday session. Vekoma, by Candy Ride, was a multiple graded stakes winner around two turns, and, later, a multiple Grade 1 winner around one turn. His first crop has been well-received, as he sired session-toppers at this Keeneland sale Saturday and Sunday, during the Book 4 sessions, and now on Tuesday. This colt, consigned by Eaton Sales, as agent, is out of the Giant's Causeway mare Gypsy Grey, who is from the family of Grade/Group 1 winners Chief Honcho and Poet's Voice and graded stakes winner Gemswick Park. Later in the session, the $130,000 filly Souper Munnings tied for the session's top price when purchased by River Bend Farm. The 4-year-old daughter of Munnings was consigned as a racing or broodmare prospect by Warrendale Sales, as agent for Live Oak Stud. Souper Munnings, who has won three of six starts, is out of the winning Sky Mesa mare Mylitta, also the dam of Grade 3-placed Judge Davis. It is the family of Canadian champion Alywow, among other graded stakes winners. For hip-by-hip results, click here. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
