Keeneland November sale: First-crop weanling by Vekoma tops session at $215,000
LEXINGTON, Ky. – A $215,000 filly from the first crop of Vekoma led the session as the Keeneland November breeding stock sale opened its Book 4 portion on Saturday.
Keeneland reported 246 horses sold Saturday for a gross of $9,596,900. In last year’s corresponding Book 4 opener, 271 horses brought $10,507,100.
The average price was $39,012, ticking up 1 percent from $38,772. The median jumped 15 percent, to $30,000 from $26,000.
The buyback rate was 24 percent, compared to 18 percent.
The session-topping Vekoma filly was purchased by Frankie’s Stable from the consignment of Grovendale Sales, as agent. This is the first crop for Vekoma, a young Candy Ride stallion who was a multiple graded stakes winner around two turns and, later, a multiple Grade 1 winner around one turn.
The filly is out of the winning Flat Out mare Truckstop Diamond, a half-sister to stakes winner Meadow Dance. It is the family of graded stakes winner Gold Medal Dancer.
