Keeneland November: Into Mischief colt tops closing session of Book 3
The Keeneland November breeding stock sale concluded Book 3 on Friday with relatively steady trade, showing a drop in average but unchanged median prices and buyback figures from this point last year, both indicators of a solid middle market. A weanling colt by Into Mischief fetched $300,000 during Friday's Book 3 finale to close out the section.
Through the first five sessions of Keeneland November, comprising the auction's single-session Book 1, plus two Book 2 sessions and two Book 3 sessions, a total of 1,094 horses have sold for gross receipts of $157,923,500. The similar section of the market last year had grossed $174,295,500 for 1,172 horses over six total sessions, two in each book.
The cumulative average price currently sits at $144,354, while the median sits at $80,000. The average is a dip of 3 percent from $148,716 at this point of the 2017 sale, while the median is unchanged. The buyback rate is also unchanged, sitting at 26 percent.

The top-priced broodmare or broodmare prospect of Book 3 came during Thursday's session, when Stonestreet Farm went to $320,000 to acquire Saucy Dame. The 3-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor was consigned as a broodmare prospect by VanMeter-Gentry Sales, as agent.
Saucy Dame, a winner this year, is out of the multiple stakes-winning Storm Cat mare Storm Beauty. That mare is the dam of seven winners from 10 starters, including Grade 3 winner Buffum, Grade 2-placed stakes winner Stormy West, Grade 3-placed Renaissance Lady, the dam of stakes-placed Elusive Schemes, and stakes-placed Value Stream.
Storm Beauty is out of Stick to Beauty, meaning she is a half-sister to champion sprinter Gold Beauty and to several other stakes horses. This is the immediate family of champions Dayjur and Sky Beauty, Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home, and multiple Grade 1 winners Maplejinsky and Tale of Ekati.
The highest-priced weanling of Book 3 came through the ring on Friday, as a son of successful sire Into Mischief went to Clear Ridge Stables for $300,000. The colt was consigned by Eaton Sales, as agent.
The colt is the first foal out of the Friends Lake mare Daryanna, who is a half-sister to Woodbine Oaks winner and Canadian champion Kimchi, Queen's Plate runner-up King of Jazz, and stakes-placed Deputy Jazz. A number of other half-siblings are stakes producers, led by Jazzmane, dam of multiple Grade/Group 1 winner Mind Your Biscuits. Yong Musician is the dam of two stakes-placed runners, including Peruvian Group 1-placed Kingdom Road, and Gentle Jazz is the dam of stakes-placed Wanna Win.
