Keeneland November: Broodmare K J Warrior sale tops activity
The $235,000 broodmare K J Warrior led trade on Saturday as the Keeneland November breeding stock sale reached its midway point with its Book 4 opener, the sixth of 12 sessions overall.
A total of 223 horses sold for gross receipts of $7,236,400 during Saturday's session, the sixth of the sale overall, and the first of two Book 4 sessions. The average price finished at $32,450, while the median was $20,000.
In the Book 4 opener at last year's Keeneland November – which was the seventh of the sale overall, as Keeneland trimmed Book 1 down this year – a total of 292 horses sold for $9,311,900. The average was $31,890 and the median was $22,000, meaning this year's comparable Book 3 opener showed a gain of 2 percent and a drop of 9 percent, respectively, in those categories. Saturday's buyback rate was 32 percent, compared to a low 17 percent in the comparable 2017 Book 3 opener.
K J Warrior, a 4-year-old daughter of Tapit, was purchased by Brad and Misty Grady, whose Grade 1 winner Girvin enters stud this coming season in Florida. The mare, offered in foal to Kantharos, was consigned by Summerfield Sales, as agent for Stonestreet Farm.
K J Warrior, a winner on the track, is out of the multiple stakes winner J Z Warrior, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner A Z Warrior, Grade 2 winner Jojo Warrior, and Grade 3 winner E Z Warrior. A Z Warrior went on to produce stakes winner Key to My Heart and stakes-placed Cole Porter.
The session's top weanling was a $145,000 Kitten's Joy filly, purchased by En Fuego Stables from the consignment of Perrone Sales, as agent.
The filly is out of the winning Honour and Glory mare Sunday Sport, making her a full sister to stakes-placed Touchdown Kitten and a half-sister to stakes-placed Norma's Charm.
