Keeneland November: Across-the-board gains on Wednesday

Wednesday’s ninth session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale posted gains in gross, average, and median, as the auction transitioned into its final three days of selling with no pause in momentum.

Keeneland reported 242 horses sold Wednesday for $4,165,200. That figure is a 4 percent increase compared with the ninth session in 2013, when 271 horses brought $3,998,100. Wednesday’s average price rose 17 percent, from $14,753 to $17,212, and the median climbed 14 percent, from $10,500 to $12,000.

Wednesday’s buyback rate was 21 percent; it was 10 percent at last year’s ninth session.

Wednesday’s session topper, a weanling Pioneerof the Nile colt, was bought by C. J. E. Stable for $85,000. He is out of the winning Friends Lake mare Aqualane Shores and is from the family of Group 2 winner Victory Piper and Grade 3 winner Pair of Deuces. The bay colt was consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.

Taylor Made Sales Agency led all consignors by gross at the session with $611,500 from 25 horses sold. Korea-based K.O.I.D. led all buyers with seven purchases totaling $168,500.

Through nine sessions, 2,092 horses have sold at Keeneland for total receipts of $201,912,600, rising 4 percent compared with last year’s auction at the same point. The average of $96,517 is up 10 percent, and the $45,000 median is up 13 percent.
