Keeneland notes: Reload sidelined after Maker's 46 scratch

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Reload, scratched from the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile on Friday at Keeneland after filling was detected in a tendon, “probably will be all right in time,” trainer Shug McGaughey said Saturday morning.
McGaughey said he wants Dr. Larry Bramlage, who has been out of town, to make a definitive diagnosis.
“We’re waiting for Dr. Bramlage to take a look at it and tell us what we need to do,” said McGaughey. “It’s my guess the horse will be all right, but you don’t know how much time that’ll take.”
Reload, a 5-year-old Phipps Stable homebred, was one of the morning-line choices behind Wise Dan, the eventual winner as the 2-5 favorite.
Reload, by Hard Spun, won his last two starts, both over the Gulfstream Park turf, the latest being the Grade 3 Canadian Turf for his first career stakes win. His overall record is five wins and four seconds from 17 starts for earnings of $327,004.
Meanwhile, Wise Dan came out of the Maker’s 46 in good fashion, according to trainer Charlie LoPresti, and probably will run next in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on the May 3 Kentucky Derby undercard, “although that’s not set in stone,” said LoPresti. Wise Dan won both races to start off his 2013 campaign.
Wise Dan earned a 100 Beyer Speed Figure in prevailing by three-quarters of a length over Kaigun, with Lochte another 4 1/4 lengths back in third. It was the 15th straight triple-digit Beyer for the reigning two-time Horse of the Year.
Kaigun also will go in the Woodford, said trainer Mark Casse, while Lochte, who is scheduled to return Monday to his south Florida base, could go next in the Woodford or wait for the Dixie Stakes on the May 17 Preakness undercard at Pimlico.
