Kenny Peck's pick-five play at Keeneland for Saturday, April 9, 2022. NASHVILLE (#5) again looks to be the dominant speed, as he was in that optional claimer at Fair Ground last time; will take them as far as he can, and he’ll be tough to catch if he’s once again unpressured from the start. Top pick O BESOS (#11) cuts back from routes and may be the one to fear late in his first start at this distance; he was moving well late in the Mineshaft last time out (3). RACE 6: Usually like to try to beat horses off inflated Beyers due to loose leads but SPENDARELLA (#3) may well be the controlling speed in this Grade 2 Appalachian, which is light on pace. She has license to run back to that 90 figure she earned in the Herecomesthebride if she’s once again able to set a moderate pace on a clear lead. AN AGENT MISTAKE (#2) had trouble in both of her two starts to date, including her latest, a game effort in the China Doll; Santa Anita ship-in shouldn’t be too far off the early pace (2). :: DRF's Blue Grass Stakes Day headquarters – Previews, past performances, picks, and more RACE 7: CENTER AISLE (#2) has speed but can also rate a bit, and she has Beyers which put her in the mix with these; can surprise in this Grade 1 Madison Stakes if she runs to those solid works she’s been posting in preparation for her 2022 debut. LADY ROCKET (#3) merits respect based on her proven speed and strong figures; another making her first start of the year, as is BELL’S THE ONE (#5). The latter could be the main beneficiary of a race-long duel between the aforementioned two fillies (3). RACE 8: GEAR JOCKEY (#5) was off the board in each of his last two starts but he didn’t run all that badly in the BC Turf Sprint and he may have needed that last one; more importantly, he seems better at this slightly extended distance than he is at five furlongs, and he should get a strong pace to chase in this Grade 2 Shakertown. A duel between GOLDEN PAL (#10) and JUST MIGHT (#11) could ruin the chances of both, but the former may be quick enough to get clear, while the latter could rate if need be (3). RACE 9: ZANDON (#4) didn’t break well in the Risen Star and that cost him early position, which may well have cost him the race, as he was left with too much to do and he flattened out after a middle move. Given a clean getaway he figures to be involved from the start, and a forward trip should be an edge given the relative lack of speed in the Grade 1 Blue Grass (1).
