Keeneland Advisory Board of Directors chooses five new members

DRF Breeding Staff|Sep 18, 2013

The Keeneland Advisory Board of Directors has elected Ian Banwell, Luther Deaton Jr., Pope McLean Jr., Daisy Phipps Pulito and Bill Shively as new members, effective immediately.

Meeting semi-annually during Keeneland’s April and October race meets, the board represents a cross-section of Thoroughbred industry members, as well as notable community figures.

“We are pleased to welcome our newest board members and appreciate their willingness to serve,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said. “They bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for the Thoroughbred industry and will be valuable additions to the board.”

Banwell owns St. George Farm in Lexington and, along with his wife, Caroline, is active in both breeding and racing Thoroughbreds. Banwell is the CEO and owner of Round Table Investment Management Company.

Deaton is the Chairman/President and CEO of Central Bank & Trust Co. in Lexington, sponsor of the Central Bank Ashland Stakes. Deaton serves on the Kentucky Economic Development Partnership Board and previously served on the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the American Bankers Association Board.

McLean is the co-owner and business manager for his family’s 1,000-acre Crestwood Farm in Lexington. He serves on the board of directors and as treasurer of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders.

Phipps is part-owner and racing manager of Phipps Stable. Phipps is a member of The Jockey Club and serves on the board of directors of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

Shively is the owner of Dixiana Farm in Lexington, which sponsors Keeneland’s Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity during the fall race meet. In 2004, Shively purchased Dixiana Farm, and in 2009 he added neighboring Domino Stud to restore historic Dixiana to its original acreage. He also has ties to the film industry as a movie producer.
