Kathryn the Wise ready for return

ELMONT, N.Y. – The fast but fragile and unbeaten New York-bred filly Kathryn the Wise returns to the races Thursday in a second-level open-company allowance race that serves as the featured event on Belmont Park’s nine-race card.
Kathryn the Wise, a 5-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo, has won all three of her starts by a combined 25 3/4 lengths. She has not run since winning the one-mile Critical Eye Stakes by 8 1/4 lengths on May 29, 2017 at Belmont.
“Outstanding talent,” trainer Chad Brown said. “Unfortunately she’s been saddled with physical problems, but she’s back doing well again. I think she’s ready to get back to the races.”
Brown believes six furlongs is probably shorter than Kathryn the Wise’s best, but she did win her career debut going that distance at Aqueduct on Nov. 25, 2016.
Kathryn the Wise, who breaks from post 4 under Irad Ortiz Jr., will meet six rivals, including Special Relativity, who has won 2 of 3 starts since being claimed by Robertino Diodoro for $50,000 in May at Churchill Downs.
Special Relativity is a 3-year-old daughter of Cowboy Cal who seems to be on the improve, and she enters this race with consecutive wins at Saratoga.
“The last few months she’s really turning out to be a pretty nice filly,” Diodoro said. “I always liked those big, good-looking fillies. That was one thing that attracted us to her. She’s filled out even more in recent months, blossomed into a pretty nice filly.”
David Cohen rides Special Relativity from post 3.
Picture Day won this condition two starts back when offered for the optional claiming price of $62,500. She is back in again for the tag in this spot.
Pacific Gale, Play Unified, Andesine, and Go Astray complete the field.
