Kant Hurry Love continued her outstanding year Sunday when she caught favorite Grannys Connection on the wire to secure her first career stakes win in the $125,000 Dancin Renee at Belmont Park.
Kant Hurry Love is now 4 for 6 in 2023.
The Dancin Renee was a six-furlong race for fillies and mares bred in New York.
Kant Hurry Love ($27.60) tracked Grannys Connection, who led the field through an opening quarter in 22.72 seconds and a half-mile in 45.68 and for a moment appeared on her way to her fifth straight win. But Kant Hurry Love was just getting into gear in the late stages and put in a determined run to get up by a nose. The winner covered the distance on a fast track in 1:10.40.
“This is a really nice filly,” winning rider Trevor McCarthy told the New York Racing Association. “The first time I rode her, I picked her up at the draw and she won really easily at Aqueduct – just playing with them. Today was definitely a big step up for her, but she showed the ability in the morning and afternoon.”
David Duggan trains Kant Hurry Love for Ken Wheeler Jr. The daughter of Kantharos picked up $68,750 for the win, which improved her overall record to 5 for 16 for earnings of $367,750.
Grannys Connection was the 3-2 favorite after winning her last four races by a combined margin of nearly 28 lengths. She finished three-quarters of a length in front of third-place finisher Sterling Silver.
* Jockey Dylan Davis won four races on the card, taking the first with Big Hazel ($38.80); the second with Collaboration ($5.10); the third with Central Pride ($6.60) and the seventh with New Ginya ($6.60).
