K P Wildcat streaks into El Diario Stakes

K P Wildcat will attempt to win her fifth consecutive race Saturday when she takes on Southern California shipper Proper Discretion and sharp local stakes winner Kell Paso in the $75,000 El Diario Handicap at Sunland Park. The race is one of two stakes on the card. The $75,000 Budweiser Handicap is led by Justin Evans trainees Mt Veeder and Concord Fast.
The El Diario is for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs. It drew nine. The Budweiser will be run over six furlongs and attracted six entrants.
K P Wildcat has racked up three stakes wins during her current streak – the Harry Henson last March at Sunland, the Chaves County in October at Zia Park, and the Nov. 22 Zia Distaff, her most recent start. She is returning to a Sunland surface over which she is 4 for 6. K P Wildcat also owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure, a 91 for her one-length victory in the Zia Distaff.
Roimes Chirinos has the mount for Karl Pergola and trainer Weston Martin. K P Wildcat, a winner of 9 races from 14 starts, is a 5-year-old by Include.
Proper Discretion, a multiple stakes winner in Ohio who ran 12th in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint in November at Del Mar, has been working sharply for the El Diario. She drilled five furlongs in a bullet 59.40 seconds Feb. 3 at Santa Anita. Eddie Perez has the mount for Loooch Racing and trainer Bob Hess Jr.
Kell Paso comes off a one-length win in the $65,000 Bold Ego on Dec. 31 at Sunland. She ran 5 1/2 furlongs in a blazing 1:02.22. Earlier in her career, Kell Paso won the El Paso Times at Sunland at the same distance as the El Diario.
Mt Veeder is looking for his third straight stakes win in the Budweiser. He began his streak in the $75,000 Zia Park Sprint on Nov. 22 and last out accounted for the $65,000 KLAQ by 1 1/2 lengths on Dec. 16 at Sunland. He won the KLAQ, run at five furlongs, in a blazing time of 55.35. Last summer, the horse won five straight races, including a pair of 870-yard dashes against Quarter Horses.
Alfredo Juarez, Jr. has the mount from post 4. Mt Veeder is a son of Ghostzapper who races for Bill Tomasic and Go-To-Toga Racing.
Concord Fast finished second in the KLAQ, one start after winning a pair of overnight races at Zia. Ry Eikleberry has the mount from the rail for Teed Off Stable.
