K P Wildcat back on dirt in Chaves County Stakes

Mary Rampellini|Sep 30, 2016

K P Wildcat returns to both New Mexico and the main track for the $50,000 Chaves County at Zia Park on Monday.

K P Wildcat is part of an eight-horse field for the one-mile race for fillies and mares. The group includes a trio of runners from the barn of trainer Justin Evans – Exposure, Lady Contender, and The Tizzler.

The Chaves County is the first of four Monday stakes to be run during October at Zia. All of the races will be for Thoroughbreds. Monday’s undercard includes an appearance by the undefeated stakes winner Bryn’s Fancy Pants, who will attempt to push her record to 5 for 5 in an allowance sprint for fillies and mares bred in New Mexico.

K P Wildcat last raced on turf at Del Mar, finishing a close sixth in an optional $80,000 claiming race Sept. 1. The start was her first since March, when she was third in the $200,000 Plum Pretty at Sunland Park.

KEY CONTENDERS

K P Wildcat, by Include

Last 3 Beyers: 86-72-61

◗ She flashed talent from the start, winning the first three races of her career by a combined margin of 22 3/4 lengths, all on dirt in New Mexico. K P Wildcat launched her career with a maiden special weight sprint win last October at Zia, then proceeded to drub first-level allowance foes by 11 lengths in her next start Jan. 1 at Sunland. K P Wildcat won the one-mile Island Fashion on Feb. 26 at Sunland in her third race.

◗ K P Wildcat has speed, but could settle off a trio of sprint-to-route prospects tucked to her inside in Lady Contender, Warrens Puppy Love, and The Tizzler.

◗ Roimes Chirinos has the mount from post 6 for owner Karl Pergola and trainer Weston Martin.

Lady Contender, by Strong Contender

Last 3 Beyers: 70-76-73

◗ She is the most accomplished member of the field as a seven-time stakes winner who is 14 for 39 overall.

◗ Lady Contender will be seeking her first win at Zia.

◗ She could be prominent off a front-running win over seven furlongs in an optional $30,000 claiming sprint at the Downs at Albuquerque in her most recent start Aug. 28.

◗ Tracy Hebert has the mount from the rail.

Zasha, by Desert God

Last 3 Beyers: 57-47-72

◗ She is back at Zia, where she recorded the biggest win of her career in the $180,000 Peppers Pride on the New Mexico Cup card last October. The race came at this mile distance, and she will be stretching back out to two turns Monday.

◗ Ken Tohill has the mount for trainer Joel Marr.
