Juvenile Inshallah impresses with front-running debut triumph
ARCADIA, Calif. – The $2.1 million 2-year-old colt Inshallah ran to advance billing Saturday at Del Mar, where the son of Flightline delivered an emphatic front-running debut victory and stamped himself among the top juveniles in California.
John Sadler trains Inshallah ($3.40) for owner KAS Stables; Joel Rosario was aboard the colt for his debut. He popped the gate, sped to the lead in :21.52 and :44.44, and coasted home by 1 1/2 lengths. His final time for the 5 1/2-furlong race was 1:03.11.
“I was really surprised how quick he was, because we don’t train for speed, per se,” Sadler said afterward.
Sadler said Inshallah “showed speed at the sale, but we don’t say, okay, let’s see how quick he can be.”
Inshallah, whose dam Bar of Gold won the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar, was purchased by KAS at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale.
The colt will be considered for the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 6. Sadler will not make that call immediately.
The runner-up Icanthelpmyself was no match for Inshallah, but he ran well finishing 4 1/2 lengths clear of third-place Domici.
