Justify, still in holding pattern, to be paraded at Del Mar on Saturday

Barbara D. Livingston Justify will miss the Del Mar summer meet after he was removed from training earlier this month.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Justify, the Triple Crown winner, continues to walk daily at Del Mar, and though no official announcement has yet been made regarding his future, as the calendar creeps toward August the window is closing for him to get back into training and have enough time to make a prep race before the Breeders’ Cup Classic, which was expected to be his final start.

Though Justify will not run at Del Mar, he will be paraded in front of fans at the track on Saturday following the fourth race, according to a release from Del Mar.

Similar to his appearance at Santa Anita in June, Justify will be walked in the paddock before being led onto the racetrack, providing racegoers with an excellent chance to take pictures of the 13th Triple Crown winner. Justify will walk in front of the grandstand and clubhouse before being led back to trainer Bob Baffert’s stable. Justify is scheduled to appear on the track at about 3:40 p.m.

Mike Smith, Justify's rider through the Triple Crown, will sign autographs Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.

His trainer, Bob Baffert, had planned on running Justify in the Haskell this Sunday at Monmouth, but those plans had to be scrapped weeks ago once Justify developed some filling, which returned when he went back to the track, prompting a longer period of merely walking.
