Triple Crown winner and successful young international sire Justify will stand for an advertised fee of $200,000 next year to lead the roster at Coolmore's Ashford Stud, the farm announced this week. Justify is the sire of English classic winners Ruling Court and Scandinavia this year, to go along with his European classic winner and champion City of Troy last year. Overall, he is the sire of nine Grade/Group 1 winners worldwide to date, including Eclipse Award champion Just F Y I. Justify and fellow Coolmore stallion Practical Joke are both top 10 general sires this year, with Practical Joke ranking 7th as of Oct. 23 and Justify sitting 9th. Practical Joke is currently the second most expensive horse on the Ashford roster for 2025, with his fee set at $75,000. At least three Ashford stallions will have their fees revealed following the Breeders' Cup, as last year's Classic one-two Sierra Leone and Fierceness will get a rematch before retiring to the farm, and Citizen Bull runs in the Dirt Mile. All three are already Eclipse Award champions and join Justify and Epicenter ($25,000) in this regard on the roster.   "All three new horses are Eclipse Award winners, following in the footsteps of Ashford stalwarts like Thunder Gulch, Uncle Mo, American Pharoah, and our flagship sire Justify, who completed a clean sweep of the colts' classics in Britain this year, with Ruling Court and Scandinavia adding to City of Troy's Epsom Derby triumph in 2024," Ashford's Charlie O'Connor said. Not on the roster this year is aforementioned Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, who will be spending the season abroad in Japan before returning to Kentucky next July.   Coolmore owns the rights to another Classic pre-entrant, this year’s Preakness Stakes winner, Journalism. The farm clarified that plans for Journalism will be determined after the Classic, following conversations with Aron Wellman of co-owner Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and other partners. His status and fee, if applicable, will be revealed at that later date.   Rounding out Ashford's confirmed roster are Munnings ($45,000), Tiz the Law ($30,000), Domestic Product ($25,000), Golden Pal ($25,000), Gunite ($25,000), Corniche ($15,000), Jack Christopher ($15,000), Mo Town ($7,500), and Echo Town ($5,000).  "All things considered, we feel our combination of established sires and emerging talent represent excellent value in today's marketplace," O'Connor said.  Many Ashford stallions continue to prove exceptionally popular, with strong books in the pipeline. Tiz the Law, who was among the freshman class's leaders in 2024 and continued on well with his 3-year-olds this year, topped The Jockey Club's Report of Mares Bred with 274 covered. Practical Joke was third nationally with 263, with his son Domestic Product checking in sixth with 224 in his first season. With 244, Justify was just behind Practical Joke. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
