Justify was a breakout success as a racehorse, crossing the line first in all six of his starts in 2018, including a sweep of the Triple Crown series. The Horse of the Year, now based at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky, enjoyed breakout success as a sire in 2023, with six Grade/Group 1 winners, tied for most by a North American sire with Into Mischief (Spendthrift Farm). Justify, by internationally successful sire Scat Daddy, has followed in his sire’s footsteps with success around the world and on multiple surfaces. That was underscored at the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita, as he was represented on dirt by Juvenile Fillies winner Just F Y I and also by Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Hard to Justify. Just F Y I was honored as the Eclipse Award champion 2-year-old filly at the awards ceremony Jan. 25, with Hard to justify among her fellow finalists. The stallion also swept the Cartier European 2-year-old championships, with unbeaten City of Troy, a Group 1 winner in England, taking the male title, and French Group 1 winner Opera Singer taking the filly award. Justify’s other two Grade 1 winners came at Belmont, and also underscored his versatility, with Arabian Lion winning the Woody Stephens around one turn on dirt, and Aspen Grove winning the Belmont Oaks routing on the grass. In addition to his Grade/Group 1 winners, which came in the U.S., England, and France, Justify, who shuttles to Coolmore’s Australian farm for the Southern Hemisphere season, was represented by three group stakes winners in Australia, and stakes winners in Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. Not only did Justify’s big season help him to edge Good Magic (Hill ‘n’ Dale), sire of Kentucky Derby winner Mage, on the second-crop sire earnings list, he led the overall 2-year-old sire list by a wide margin. Justify’s 2-year-old progeny bankroll of $5,009,190 from 71 starters easily bested Constitution (WinStar Farm) with $2,910,688 from 89 starters, and leading freshman sire Mitole, with $2,626,827 from his 83 runners. Off his breakout success, Justify’s fee was initially advertised at $200,000 for 2024, which would place him among the highest-priced stallions in North America. His fee is now listed as private. :: READ MORE: Coolmore stallion promotion to award seasons to Justify ::
