Just Scarlet up in time in Chapel Belle

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Just Scarlet caught pacesetter Distinctive Code at the wire to win the $50,000 Chapel Belle Stakes by a head at Louisiana Downs on Saturday. It was another length back in third to Sheza Nasty Lady.

Just Scarlet($32.20) settled about eight lengths behind Distinctive Code, who led the field through fractions of 47.69 for the opening half mile and 1:11.48 for six furlongs while pushed along by Very Geri.

Into the stretch, Just Scarlet angled to the outside of rivals and closed with a rush to catch Distinctive Code. She covered the turf race for 3-year-old fillies, run at about a mile and sixteenth, in 1:42.94.

Jockey Russell Woolsey was aboard Just Scarlet for owner Lisa Haydel and trainer Cliff Haydel. The win was the third career victory for Just Scarlet, and the $30,000 first-place check pushed her earnings to $66,885.
